Fashion has never been something I paid any mind to. However, while watching wedding shows on channels like TLC and WE, you're bound to get fashion stuffed down your throat. (side rant: I hate how "Say Yes to the Dress" is followed by "What Not to Wear" in the afternoons. "What Not to Wear" is a terrible show!)
Back on task.
"Say Yes to the Dress" has become my new wedding addiction since I've been working from home. I always work better with a little bit of background distraction, whether it be music or the right kind of tv show. "Say Yes to the Dress" is interesting yet not distracting so it's great for when I'm in my late morning stride. If you have ever seen an episode of this show, then there's a really good chance you've seen a version of this dress style:
Apparently this is the fashion. Everyone seems to be buying this dress style from Kleinfeld. I am not picking on this style because it simply isn't me, I'm just flabbergasted on how women fall in love with these dresses which are to be worn on their wedding day! I totally understand loving the look a corset top gives you. That's not my problem. These pictures really don't do the sheerness of the bodice justice. If you've seen one of these dresses on the show, then you know what I'm talking about. It's sheer - except for the boning and the decoration at the bust - it's all sheer. These dresses look like sorority Halloween costumes and they cost more than a few thousand pretty pennies. I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings - it's your dress, you should love it - but I honestly don't get it. Sexy bride of Frankenstein('s monster) - sure! Outfit to wear when committing yourself to another human being for the rest of your life - I mean if you have to mesmerize him/her with a sexy outfit to ensure they say yes, that's the bed you make for yourself, I guess.
What's your opinion of the sheer corset wedding dresses? Do they look better in person? Do you think it will be a short-lived trend?

You're so right, that dress is ALWAYS on the show and always being bought! I personally do not see the appeal of the dress the way the women purchasing them do. To me it seems like they just want to be seen as super sexy on their wedding day, though your comment of needing mesmerize their guys totally fits and made me laugh! I say that as long as the girl feels beautiful and comfortable (since you'll be in the dress for hours usually), then if the sheer dress is it, then I guess it's the dress for them. :) Btw, I love your blog!
ReplyDeleteYou have the worse attitude when it comes to this.
ReplyDeleteIf the women like the dress in that design then so be it. So what if it's on her wedding day, or in your case Halloween. A bride is a bride.
