Geek Theme for Wedding: The Bride

Ever since I found my dress, I've known that I want a pair of fun flats to wear on my wedding day. Why flats? Douglas and I are about the same height and I really enjoy that. I indulge my enjoyment of wearing boots or heels every now and then, but for the most part, I wear flats. I really enjoy the symbolism of us being at the same level and it will never be as important as the day we make a lifetime commitment to each other.

I am 99% on the flats. I was 100% until I found these:

From my new vice: SuperheroStuff.com

Oh yes, ladies and gentlmen, those are Wonder Woman boots! How sweet would it be to rock these under a wedding dress? Sadly, these are 1) a pointed toe, a style that never fits me and 2) only goes up to a size 10, too small. However, these are totally in line with my wanting fun shoes. Even though it won't happen, the image of these under a wedding dress make me very happy and always puts a smile across my face.

Now, before I move on to the next little gem, a little back story. I'm not a fan of strapless tops or dresses, so I never, in a million years, thought my wedding dress would be strapless. What sold me was the sweetheart neckline. When I had the sample on for my dress, the first person that came to mind was Princess Diana.

I knew that one of my accessories may have to be silver wrist cuffs. Then I was given a tiara to try on with the dress. Having never been a princess type, I had no idea how to put on a tiara. In goofing off, I held the tiara on my forehead like Wonder Woman's head piece and posed for an action shot. I love the photo! However, I can't share since it's THE dress. Dying to share it, though.

Having shared that story, Douglas came across this today on his Twitter feed and instantly thought of my wedding get-up (based on the boots, he knows nothing of the dress):

JLA Trophy Room: Wonder Woman
That is a lasso, tiara, and wrist cuffs! The only time it's acceptable for me to wear gold is when it involves Wonder Woman (I'm a silver girl myself, hence the desire to have the cuffs).

I will not be donning the persona of Wonder Woman at the wedding, however, it is fun finding accessories that could be used without being outright geeky. You never know, there may be a lot of little geeky easter eggs in our wedding.

The Theme of Our Marriage

We are geeks and we are proud!  If you haven't learned this about us yet, the next few months will provide solid evidence to help you reach this conclusion.

Early on, we were trying to figure out a theme for the wedding so that everything would seem like it was part of the same event.  Some fun ideas came out of this, but nothing that really grabbed us.  As we were working on the Save the Dates, we decided to abandon the theme idea and just go with what got us excited.  This decision has led to the inclusion of nerdcore hip-hop and "White and Nerdy" on the cd, using the violet lantern corps emblem on our cd cover and return address labels, and discussing a very "Batman" way of doing the invitations.  Although a majority of our guests won't get the less obvious quirks, we still hope that everything we do is still approachable to everyone.

Our geekiness did not start with the engagement ring, nor will it end with our honeymoon.  We're not planning to have kids in the very near future, but I already am itching to make a purchase for our yet-to-be-concerned-about-zygotes.

Oh yes, fellow civilians, those are the onesies of the JLA!  Nothing is more gender neutral than geek clothing!  Seriously, if anything is going to get me to start nesting before even conceiving, it's stuff for baby geek.

Now, if only we could figure out and be as excited about our honeymoon....

Dogs and Cats Living Together

Mass hysteria! Ghostbusters

Forgive me, my brain is mush.

I have recently taken on new responsibility (read 2 new projects) at work and it's pedal to the metal to meet the quickly approaching deadlines!  It's been a long week.

Anyway, I figured it's been a while and I owe you guys a decent sized post.  I would say "good" or "quality" post, but I can't promise that this jumble of words will meet either of those promises.

So what's going on in our little world of wedding planning woes?  There aren't really too many woes...I just couldn't think of a better "w" word to use and wanted to keep the alliteration.

We have our official budget!  (see, no woe here)  Now we can start talking to our caterer with realistic cost expectations in mind for food, service, and alcohol.  Yay for being able to move forward on figuring out the biggest chunk of our wedding budget!

After we get realistic estimates for what we'd like to do, we can then figure out what we have left for other vendors and how we'd like to disperse the money.  Will I go with flowers or will all of us girls be holding something totally different?  Photography is a must, but will we go with a professional package or find a local photographer who wants to build their portfolio for a cheaper rate?  Will we go with cake, cupcakes, lava cakes, moonpies, or cannolies?  Have no fear, I will be taking advantage of cake tasting opportunities no matter what we decide.  Free cake?  You cannot turn that down!  DJ, band, or iPod?  Decisions, decisions.

We had it pointed out to us over the holiday break that what we thought was a simple idea for outfits for the groomsmen turned out to take our wedding party style way more formal than we wanted to.  The idea was to just have the guys wear black suits that they A) already owned or could B) wear again later should they decide to buy one.  That took us down the path of a white and black wedding look (my dress, their suits) and down the formal direction of things.  Oh no!  As soon as that was pointed out to us we did a quick reversal on that decision.  We want a relaxed, casual, and fun wedding.  My dress may look formal, but I won't be gliding down the aisle and being graceful on the dance floor in it, no!, I'm going to be rockin' that gown!  The dress may be formal but the girl wearing it, most certainly is not.  Crisis averted!
