My Luck with Shoes

I despise shoe shopping. I typically have so much trouble finding shoes that fit that I rarely venture into buying a pair online knowing that odds are good I'll be paying return shipping and a restocking fee with nothing to show for it. Why do I have so much trouble? Because of these babies:

I love my big German feet (thanks, Nana)! However, they do make things difficult. Even though stores have started to carry more of a variety in the bigger sizes of the past few years, they are not all created equal. A size 11 in high heel peep toe A fits totally different than high heel peep toe B. So it's a crap shoot. When the long awaited Wonder Woman boots showed up today around lunch, I couldn't wait to slip them on. Well, it wasn't so much a slip...

I...have...THE POWER!

Ok ok. It wasn't that bad. However, there was a bit of a struggle since the boots are very snug in the calf to the point of the zipper having a bit of trouble (and my calves aren't that large). My initial reaction to the boots was disappointment. The calf hugging was nice once zipped but the material bunched up at the ankle which doesn't give the boots a sleek look. I spent the rest of the work day bummed out because I was considering sending them back. After work, I trudged upstairs, box in hand, to take some photos for the blog. What was going to be about five minutes of some quick snap shots turned into about a half hour of photo fun which resulted in a great realization: I love these boots!!!

Now the boots have a special place in my closet and I am a very happy Crystal. This may have to be my look for the rehearsal. The boots, that skirt, and this shirt:

Geek Theme for Wedding: The Bride

Ever since I found my dress, I've known that I want a pair of fun flats to wear on my wedding day. Why flats? Douglas and I are about the same height and I really enjoy that. I indulge my enjoyment of wearing boots or heels every now and then, but for the most part, I wear flats. I really enjoy the symbolism of us being at the same level and it will never be as important as the day we make a lifetime commitment to each other.

I am 99% on the flats. I was 100% until I found these:

From my new vice: SuperheroStuff.com

Oh yes, ladies and gentlmen, those are Wonder Woman boots! How sweet would it be to rock these under a wedding dress? Sadly, these are 1) a pointed toe, a style that never fits me and 2) only goes up to a size 10, too small. However, these are totally in line with my wanting fun shoes. Even though it won't happen, the image of these under a wedding dress make me very happy and always puts a smile across my face.

Now, before I move on to the next little gem, a little back story. I'm not a fan of strapless tops or dresses, so I never, in a million years, thought my wedding dress would be strapless. What sold me was the sweetheart neckline. When I had the sample on for my dress, the first person that came to mind was Princess Diana.

I knew that one of my accessories may have to be silver wrist cuffs. Then I was given a tiara to try on with the dress. Having never been a princess type, I had no idea how to put on a tiara. In goofing off, I held the tiara on my forehead like Wonder Woman's head piece and posed for an action shot. I love the photo! However, I can't share since it's THE dress. Dying to share it, though.

Having shared that story, Douglas came across this today on his Twitter feed and instantly thought of my wedding get-up (based on the boots, he knows nothing of the dress):

That is a lasso, tiara, and wrist cuffs! The only time it's acceptable for me to wear gold is when it involves Wonder Woman (I'm a silver girl myself, hence the desire to have the cuffs).

I will not be donning the persona of Wonder Woman at the wedding, however, it is fun finding accessories that could be used without being outright geeky. You never know, there may be a lot of little geeky easter eggs in our wedding.
